Body found in north-east of Scottish country has been confirmed to be 16-year-old Philip John Lakin

Police believe they found the body of a 16-year-old boy who went missing weeks ago in Scotland.

Police Scotland appealed to the public earlier this week for information on Philip John Lakin, who went missing from East Kilbride on 9 July. His body was found on Friday.

Detective Inspector Craig Eaton said the body was found in the north-east of the country. “A postmortem examination has confirmed that the death is being treated as unexplained and therefore has been referred to the procurator fiscal for further investigation,” he said.

“It is important that anyone who knew Philip or saw him between the 24th and 30th of July contact officers as enquiries will continue to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.”

Lakin was described as 5ft 6in, of slight build with shoulder-length dark brown hair. He was last seen wearing a black polo shirt, blue jeans and grey trainers.

Anyone with information about Lakin’s whereabouts should contact Police Scotland’s non-emergency number 101.
