Max Verstappen is ready to give fellow Dutch driver Michael Schumacher his “respect.”
The 19-year-old touched down in Germany at the weekend to begin the final stage of his Formula One career.
The young driver’s bid to join the so-called F1 club of Ferrari greats is competing with enormous expectations following his performances in the last two seasons, including that dominant win at last year’s Canadian Grand Prix.
However the young prodigy has indicated he’d prefer to remain under the radar.
Speaking to reporters at the inaugural Abu Dhabi F1 Track Day, Verstappen said he’s not ready to be called the next Michael Schumacher just yet, adding “maybe you will see me on the podium sooner than later.”
The young driver has already proven his mettle with a series of inspired performances this season, including wins in Germany and Austria , a first Silverstone podium , and most recently his first career win in Azerbaijan in June.
Schumacher was an eight-time world champion with the iconic Maranello team, winning 19 grand prix.
