( CNN ) — Vice President Joe Biden continues to keep a low profile. And the one thing that’s stayed constant? His penchant for outrageous spending.

Two former White House staffers — Joe and Jill Biden — are reportedly planning a major summer vacation on a $40 million oceanfront compound in Ocean City, Maryland.

The compound, which boasts a basketball court, tennis court, library, gym, yoga room, meditation room, full kitchen and wine cellar, has reportedly been left untouched since the Obama administration in 2009.

Three sources familiar with the Biden family’s plans tell CNN that the vice president and his wife are making plans to vacation during the next three months.

The vice president’s office told CNN in a statement, “We haven’t yet decided on the schedule and details of Joe’s 2018 summer vacation, but no decision has been made yet.”

Separately, according to two unnamed sources, the vice president has also leased a second oceanfront vacation home in Connecticut, which has a beachfront deck and an infinity edge pool.

On the campaign trail

In 2008, when Biden was seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, he routinely flew first class on commercial flights to fundraisers in order to save money, according to Politico.

The vice president is married to Dr. Jill Biden and they have three adult children — Hunter, Ashley and Ashley’s daughter, Ashley Meyer.

In a short-lived 2016 bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, Biden emerged as an early front-runner in the primary race. But his support of proposals such as the Affordable Care Act’s mandate on individuals to buy health insurance in 2003 and his own health plan proposals during his time in Congress set him apart from other Democrats.

Ultimately, Biden dropped out of the presidential race after his son Beau Biden, who was running for governor of Delaware, was diagnosed with brain cancer. Biden lost his only son in 2011 to a car accident involving a motorcycle.
